Rajasthan’s Inspector at anti-corruption bureau (ACB), Vikram succumbed to cancer on Tuesday, September 24. Aged 43, he was being diagnosed with cancer in June this year.

Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot took to Twitter to express his condolence. He wrote, “Deeply saddened to know of passing away of ACB Inspector Vikram Singh Shekhawat, a brave and dedicated officer of #Rajasthan. His demise is a great loss…May his soul rest in peace. My heartfelt condolences and prayers for his family members. May God give them strength.”

Singh was given a job with Rajasthan Police in January 2002 after his father, Shiv Pal Singh, passed away on duty at Bagar police station.

ACB inspector general of police Dinesh MN wrote an emotional post on Facebook. “Vikram Singh, the unsung Police Inspector working in ACB since 8 years loses his gallant and spirited fight against Cancer. He exhibited unparalleled heights of determination and fortitude for the past three and a half months of excruciating pain and desolation. We were sure that he would have some plan to deceive the disease and his sheer will to live and his doggedness made us believe that he would defeat the disease. That was the confidence we had in him, we believed he could do anything,” Dinesh penned.

“He lived ACB, breathed ACB and even in his dreams, only Operations, numbers, surveillance, demand, delivery, arrest, search seizure haunted him. His conviction to pursue Corrupt, Courage in navigating the uncharted courses in pursuit of High officials and precise anticipation of when a Corrupt deal would fructify and when ACB should act are legendary.”

“Led by great DG/ADGs ACB Rajasthan catapulted itself into a leading state in acting against Corruption in India in the last 8-9 years and Vikram was part of every operation that put Rajasthan on this pedestal as head of Technical Surveillance Unit of Rajasthan ACB. ACB Operations in Mining, NRHM, Ajmer Police & Judiciary, Kota Police, Narcotics, PHED and other departments which led to arrest of some of the Highest level officers had Vikram listening to thousands of calls and sifting through hundreds of CDRs.”

“His passion for work is legendary and his exploits are going to be the stuff of folklore. He has left a Vikram sized void not just in ACB and Rajasthan but within me also. What he did in his 41 years is great, but surely Rajasthan would have been a less Corrupt state with him around us. I have not just lost a colleague but a dear brother who guided me in my first important posting as IG ACB in 2015 after 7 years of jail and in concluding Mining Operation which is one the most prestigious cases of Rajasthan ACB.His indefatigable spirit will stay within us exhorting us to do great job along with his memories and the bright smile. Salute to the paramount hero.”

Singh is survived by wife and 10-year-old son, Shaurya.
