Tragic Suicide of Another IIT Aspirant in Rajasthan’s Coaching Hub Kota

During this past year, there have been four suicides of this type in less than one and a half months.

Another IIT aspirant in Rajasthan’s coaching hub Kota died by suicide on Tuesday morning (February 13) after being unable to cope with the pressure. During this past year, there have been four suicides of this type in less than one and a half months.

As reported by NDTV, Shubh Choudhary, a student from Jharkhand who was preparing for the Joint Entrance Examination, was disturbed by the results of the JEE Mains announced the day before. During the past two years, Choudhary received coaching for the Joint Entrance Examination, a requirement for admission to top engineering colleges, including IITs, in Kota. However, Choudhary found his score in the Mains below his expectations.

According to the report, the police have informed his parents and the autopsy will take place once they reach Kota. He was found dead the next morning in his hostel room. Police are searching for clues or any suicide notes he might have left before hanging himself.

Another student has gone missing while the police are dealing with the latest suicide. The State Disaster Response Force has been deployed to search the Chambal River for the missing student.

In the year 2023, 25 students chose to take their own lives, according to Rajasthan Police data. Students who come to Kota for coaching for various competitive examinations have been experiencing an increase in suicides. According to police data, 15 students committed suicide in 2022, 18 in 2019, and 20 in 2018.
