In a shocking incident, a 25-year-old murder convict chopped off his genitals inside Gwalior central jail on Tuesday morning. The convict told the horrified inmates that he had dreamt that god wanted him to do it and offer it at the prison temple.
Convict Vishnu Singh used a sharpened spoon, which prisoners often keep illegally, to chop off his parts.
According to the reports, Singh was found bleeding around 6.30pm and taken to a government hospital, where the doctors tried reconstructive surgery but in vain, said jail superintendent Manoj Sahu. His condition remains critical.
“He is serving out a life term and had entered prison in October 2018. “Today, he went to the Shiva temple, castrated himself with a sharp-edged spoon and offered it to the deity,” Sahu said, adding the convict is unmarried.
The jail authorities are probing the matter.
