While the nation was still recovering from Sports Minister Vijay Goel’s tirade of embarrassment at Rio, Haryana chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar committed a faux pas when he during an event at Bahadurgarh said that silver medalist PV Sindhu belonged to Karnataka.
Speaking at a function he said, “Sakshi Malik from Haryana and Sindhu from Karnataka”. He can even be heard asking one of his officers “kya naam” while mentioning Sindhu during his address showing his awareness of “India’s daughters”’ achievements.
In the same event India’s bronze medallist Sakshi Malik was presented with a cheque of ₹2.5 crore and also announced the brand ambassador of Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao campaign in the state.
Twitter had a field day with Khattar’s statement and he drew a lot of flak for being so ‘informed’ about “India’s daughters.” Watch the video shared by ANI- #WATCH Haryana CM ML Khattar says PV Sindhu is from Karnatakahttps://t.co/TXsYp5SGay
