National Regifting Day 2021: History, celebrations and considerations while re-gifting

National Regifting Day is celebrated annually on Thursday which comes before Christmas. This year it will be celebrated on December 17. Regifting Day was celebrated in honor of office parties and for the unique Christmas gift exchange.

National Regifting Day is the day for all the companies to hold their annual company or company Christmas party. Research shows that 40% of office party gifts are re-gifted which means the gift given to someone is re-gifted to someone without any use.

History of National Regifting Day:

On October 24, 2008, the state of Colorado declared the “National Regifting Day” in an official proclamation. The state Governor Bill Ritter issued that day. Money Management International made the websites NationalRegifting.com and regiftable.com to give people a way to learn about regifting.

Considerations While Re-Gifting:

  • Re-Gift only when the recipient will enjoy your gift.
  • The Gift should be new and must be in its original packing.
  • If the gift has some special meaning to the giver, don’t re-gift.
  • Don’t re-gift if you aren’t sure about who gave it to you.
  • You must be ready to answer the questions about that gift like “where did you find it?”, “Who gave it you?”, etc.
  • Be aware of not to Re-gift something to the original giver.
  • Remove all the tags from the gift.
  • Re-gift only when you are sure that the new recipient will not tell the original giver about that gift.

How to Celebrate National Regifting Day:

On this day, the only thing you do is to give away the gifts to someone which you received from someone, that you have not opened. The day is about giving away gifts that you have not opened before. You should make sure that everyone should have a good holiday spirit on that day.
