DFR officials had no immediate information on the status of the pilots or whether any injuries had been reported as a result of falling debris.
According to one eyewitness posting on Twitter: “A WWII bomber just crashed at Dallas Executive Airport.
“It was part of the Commemorative Air Force’s Wings Over Dallas Show. Wing just came off as it made a pass over the airfield.
“Tragic and horrible to witness.”
Traffic has been stopped, with local police officials closing the road to clear the crash debris in the area and make it safe for road-goers to drive through.
Prior to the crash, the airshow was hyped up as a chance to “re-live history”, with a selection of World War Two planes on show and in action.
The venue is the home of the United States’ Commemorative Air Force’s national headquarters.
A spokesman said: “Founded in 1957 to help preserve history, the CAF has amassed more than 180 World War II aircraft, which represents the largest collection of flying vintage military planes in the world.”
