Noida: A fight erupted in Spectrum Mall located in Sector 75, Noida on Sunday, June 18, between a family and bouncers of the establishment. The reason behind the clash was found to be service tax. A cross FIR has been registered by the police.
According to the victim’s tweets, the conflict began when the restaurant employees refused to serve the family certain food items, which they accepted despite their protests. However, when the family requested that the service charge be removed from their account, the staff adamantly refused, resulting in an argument.
The video of this incident went viral on Twitter and has been widely shared. A lot of people online urged the government to remove service charge.

A user shared that service charge is all optional it has been already clarified by court. If customer is not happy with the service he can not be forced to pay it. They said that forcefull vasooli of service charge is completely wrong.

As per Central Consumer Protection Authority service charge is completely voluntary and no customer can be forced to pay it against their will. If the restaurant is charging service charge forcefully then strict actions needs to be taken against them.@jagograhakjago @PiyushGoyal

Another user tweeted that even thought Spectrum Mall has just started business, these incidents have become common, especially in places like Garden Galleria in Noida.
A number of other people complained about how restaurants levying service charges, and called it extortion.
Deputy police commissioner of Noida, Harish Chander, stated that during the invoicing process, there was a heated debate regarding the imposition of service fees. Following the deterioration of the dispute, a brawl broke out between the group of diners and the restaurant’s employees.
According to tweets, the situation rapidly escalated, with restaurant staff allegedly verbally abusing the victim’s brother and physically assaulting the victim. The personnel then attacked the mother and aunt of the victim (Maasi). According to tweets, the situation deteriorated further when approximately 30 individuals, presumably affiliated with the establishment, joined the assault against the victim’s entire family.
