Editing Registry Files with Registry Preview in Windows PowerToys: If you purchased your Kindle outside of the United Kingdom and the United States, you will not see the Bluetooth option.

To alter this, you must change the country/region settings for your Kindle content and devices to either the United States or the United Kingdom.

Changing your Kindle’s regional settings will enable Bluetooth, but it will also affect your Kindle subscriptions, if you have any.

Purchasing your ideal device only to discover that it lacks essential features is, at the very least, a frustrating experience. This appears to be the case for the majority of Kindle devices sold outside the United States and the United Kingdom. Even though Amazon advertises that its Kindle e-readers can connect to Bluetooth devices in order to listen to audiobooks or use VoiceView, Bluetooth may not be available on the majority of Kindle devices.

One can understandably feel deceived when scouring their device’s settings only to discover that Bluetooth is not an option. However, that is a fixable issue, with a minor exception. Follow the instructions below to learn how to display the Bluetooth option on your Kindle.

Editing Registry Files with Registry Preview in Windows PowerToys: Where on my Kindle can I find Bluetooth?

On the majority of Kindles with Bluetooth, the option to turn it on can be found in Quick settings (tap the upper edge).

Alternately, it can be found in ‘Settings’ under ‘WiFi & Bluetooth’.

However, if your Kindle lacks Bluetooth, you will not see the option to enable or disable Bluetooth on either of these displays.

This is comprehensible for older Kindles that lack the Bluetooth connection option. But if you recently purchased a Kindle e-reader that was advertised as having Bluetooth, you should receive this feature regardless of where you reside. Unfortunately, Amazon does not concur.

The reason why Bluetooth is absent from your Kindle e-reader.

As previously mentioned, the primary reason why you may not see the Bluetooth option on your Kindle is because Amazon does not permit you to access audible books on your Kindle if your region settings are set to a country other than the United States or United Kingdom.

If you purchased the Kindle from your country’s Amazon website, you will not see the Bluetooth option. Even more troubling is the lack of coverage on this topic, particularly for users who do not reside in the preferred location for Kindle users.

Why does Amazon not include Bluetooth on the Kindle in my country?

It is odd that Amazon does not include the Bluetooth menu in Kindles for users in all countries, not just the United States and the United Kingdom, given that there are no hardware differences between Kindles. The only distinction is in the software and your account’s country or region settings. Amazon appears to believe that people outside of these two regions would not be interested in listening to audiobooks on their Kindles. Or perhaps it facilitates payment administration.

In any case, users outside the preferable locations are clearly at a disadvantage because their Kindles do not come equipped with Bluetooth by default. Fortunately, there is a roundabout method to add Bluetooth functionality to your Kindle.

Enable Bluetooth connectivity on your Kindle

To enable Bluetooth on your Kindle, you must alter the country preference in your Kindle’s settings and then deregister and reregister your Kindle.

However, if you have a subscription to Kindle Unlimited, changing your region settings will not migrate your subscription. Follow the steps below if your subscription has expired or you don’t mind cancelling it (and commencing a new one in the new region):

Change Country/Region Preferences in the first step

Launch Amazon.com and sign in to your account. Then, hover your mouse pointer over your account and select Manage Your Content and Devices.

Select Preferences.

Expand the Country/Region Settings section.

Select Change.

Choose the country from the menu.

Choose the United States or the United Kingdom as your country.

You can add any arbitrary address where address lines and phone numbers are required. Make sure that your nationality is set to United Kingdom or United States. And then select Update.

As displayed below, this modification will affect your Kindle subscriptions and store preferences. If these are acceptable, select Update.

The second step is to deregister your Kindle.

After updating your region, you must deregister your Kindle. This can be done from either the Kindle device itself or the Amazon website.

From Amazon’s web page

On the same ‘Manage Your Content and Devices’ page, click Devices.

Select Kindle.

Choose your Kindle.

And then select Unregister.

Select Deregister to confirm.

Within the Kindle device itself

Tap the three-dot icon in the upper right corner of your Kindle device if you wish to deregister.

Select Settings.

Click Your Account.

And choose Unregister Device.

Register your Kindle again.

Then, launch your Kindle and select Register Your Kindle.

Tap the Setup button on this Kindle.

Enter your credentials, then click Sign in.

On the following screen, you will be prompted to join Kindle Unlimited. Due to the fact that your Kindle Unlimited subscription is not transmitted to the new region, you must begin a new subscription. But you can also avoid it by tapping No thanks.

Once Kindle opens, the Bluetooth icon should appear in the fast settings.

Find it under Wi-Fi & Bluetooth on the ‘Settings’ page.

Pair a Bluetooth device

Open the ‘Wi-fi & Bluetooth’ page under Settings and enable Bluetooth to associate a Bluetooth device.

Tap Bluetooth Devices then.

Ensure that your Bluetooth device is activated and in connection mode. Once it has been located, touch it to pair and connect.

Once connected, the Bluetooth icon should appear at the top.

Additionally, a new Volume toggle will appear in Quick Settings.

What occurs when you modify your Amazon Country/Region Preferences?

As previously indicated, when you change your region preferences on Amazon, any active Kindle Unlimited subscription will be terminated. And to resubscribe, you must do so from the new regional Amazon website (Amazon.com) and in the currency of that country. Your Kindle device’s Kindle Store will also alter, and you will no longer be able to make purchases in your local currency.

If the Bluetooth experience is more important and you don’t mind purchasing audiobooks from the US Audible site, then altering your region preferences shouldn’t significantly affect your Kindle reading experience.

FAQ

Let’s examine a few concerns regarding Bluetooth activation on Kindle devices.

How do I enable Bluetooth functionality on my Kindle?

Go to the Settings page to enable Bluetooth on your Kindle. Open the Amazon website and modify your country/region settings to ‘USA’ under Manage your Content and Devices > Preferences if you do not see the Bluetooth icon.

Where on my Kindle can I find Bluetooth?

Bluetooth is accessible through both Quick Settings and the Settings page.

Does the first-generation Kindle support Bluetooth?

Yes, the Kindle Basic is equipped with Bluetooth. However, if you purchased your Kindle from your regional Amazon website, you will need to adjust the device’s country settings to the United States or United Kingdom in order to see Bluetooth. Refer to the guide above for more information.

The lack of a Bluetooth option on Bluetooth-capable devices may seem absurd, but Amazon’s disparities in regional services produce precisely that result. However, if you do not use Kindle subscriptions or do not mind leaving your regional Kindle store, enabling Bluetooth should not be a problem.
