Nathan Lyon, a veteran off-spinner, has signed a three-year contract with the Melbourne Renegades of the Big Bash League (BBL), concluding a decade of service with the Sydney Sixers. Lyon will join up with Australia’s regular white-ball leg-spinner Adam Zampa at the Renegades. Lyon was a member of the 2019-20 Sixers team that won the championship, and his new contract with the Renegades will keep him with the club until the conclusion of the 2025-26 season. “I am ecstatic to be a member of the Melbourne Renegades. I prefer bowling at (Marvel Stadium) because the lanes tend to spin a little bit. I’m looking forward to hopefully forming a great partnership with ‘Zamps’ and putting on a performance for Renegades fans.”

One of the reasons I wanted to come down was because I have some close friends who are members of the Melbourne Renegades. I’ve played a lot of cricket with a number of the senior players, both internationally and domestically, and when you consider the younger players throughout the roster, it’s a fairly formidable squad in my opinion.
In a statement released by the club on Friday, Lyon said, “I believe we need to set a high standard, aim for the finals, and make every effort to win the championship.”
Lyon has taken 44 wickets in 38 BBL matches with an average of 21.50 and an economy rate of 7. Due to his international responsibilities conflicting with league games, he has not featured much in the league. Lyon began his BBL career with the Adelaide Strikers before transferring to Sydney and then Melbourne.
“It’s great to see a player and individual of Nathan’s calibre join the Melbourne Renegades. Nathan’s sustained success at the highest level of the sport speaks for itself, and his abilities and experience will be a tremendous asset to our team.”

The Renegades will open the thirteenth season of the Big Bash League on December 8 against the Sydney Sixers at the SCG, followed by their first home match against the Perth Scorchers on December 10 at Geelong’s GMHBA Stadium.
Nic Maddinson (captain), Aaron Finch, Mackenzie Harvey, Nathan Lyon, Shaun Marsh, Kane Richardson, Tom Rogers, Jon Wells, Will Sutherland, and Adam Zampa make up the current Renegades squad.
