SSI Payments on Weekends: One common question about SSI payments is whether they are deposited on weekends. Let’s break it down in an easy-to-understand way.
If your payment date falls on a weekend, what happens?
If your regularly scheduled payment date falls on a Saturday, Sunday, or legal public holiday, you won’t receive your payment. The day before your due date, benefits will be paid. For example, if the first is a Saturday, your SSI benefits will be deposited the Friday prior.
Social Security Payment Calendar: An Overview
For example, the payment you receive in June is actually for your May benefits. Social Security benefits are usually paid out the month following the month for which they are due. In most cases, people receive their payments the second, third, or fourth Wednesday of every month, depending on their birthday.
The payment schedule based on your birthday is as follows:
- Payments are made on the second Wednesday of each month for the 1st through 10th.
- On the third Wednesday of each month, payments are made for the 11th through 20th.
- Monthly payments are made on the fourth Wednesday of each month from the 21st to the 31st.
- In June, for instance, those with birthdays between the 21st and 31st will receive their benefits on Wednesday, June 26, if their birthdays fall between the 21st and 31st.
Holidays and special cases
In addition, there are a few exceptions to keep in mind:
SSI recipients who do not receive another Social Security-administered benefit typically receive their payment on the first of the month. Payments will, however, be made on the preceding business day if the first falls on a weekend, as it does this year in June. Therefore, SSI recipients will receive their June benefits on Friday, May 31.
Since Juneteenth falls on a Wednesday this year, Social Security benefits that would normally be paid on the third Wednesday will be deposited on the preceding Tuesday instead.
The importance of the schedule
Knowing exactly when your benefits will be deposited can help you manage your expenses more effectively and avoid any potential financial shortfalls.
While SSI payments aren’t deposited on weekends, Social Security makes sure you receive your benefits the business day before.
