August Social Security payments: The Social Security Administration (SSA) is preparing to distribute benefits for another month.
The organization pays program participants millions of dollars every month. Retired workers, survivors, and those eligible for Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) or Supplemental Security Income (SSI) are among its primary beneficiaries.

The checks’ amounts vary based on each beneficiary’s unique circumstances. However according to official SSA projections, a retired worker can expect to get about $1,907 a month, while married couples filing jointly can expect to receive an average payout of $3,303.

The average monthly stipend for SSI recipients is $943 for single recipients and $1,415 for couples.
To keep up with inflation and prevent beneficiaries from losing buying power during periods of high inflation, payments are increased yearly. The term COLA, or Cost of Living Adjustment, refers to this increase. The COLA increased by 3.2% in 2024. In October, the rise for 2025 will be revealed.
When should August’s Social Security benefits arrive?
The birthdate of the recipients dictates the day the payments are made. For those born between the first and the tenth, the payment is made on the second Wednesday of the month; for those born between the eleventh and the twentieth, the third Wednesday. On the last Wednesday, checks are written to recipients whose birthdays lie between the 21st and the 31st of every month.
SSI recipients and workers who retired before May 1997 are not covered by this limitation since they get paid on the first day of every month regardless of their date of birth.
If a recipient receives SSI payments in addition to normal benefits, the SSA will initially give SSI payments on the first day of the month then the regular benefit on the third day. If the payment come due on a weekend or holiday, the deposit will be advanced.
