New Delhi: Congress leader Sonia Gandhi inaugurated the party’s new headquarters, ‘Indira Bhawan,’ on Wednesday in a historic milestone for the 139-year-old political organization. The ceremony, held at the newly established office on 9A, Kotla Road, witnessed the presence of Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, MP Rahul Gandhi, and several senior party leaders.

Named in honor of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, the headquarters serves as a tribute to her enduring legacy and contributions to the party and the nation.

A Modern Tribute to Congress’ Rich History

The inauguration of Indira Bhawan symbolizes a blend of the Congress party’s rich history and its forward-looking vision. According to an official release, the building represents the party’s commitment to upholding the principles championed by its stalwarts, including Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru, and Sardar Patel.

“As the party that spearheaded India’s freedom movement, the Congress has consistently strived to build a modern, democratic, and equitable India,” the release stated.

The state-of-the-art facility is designed to cater to the evolving needs of the party and its leaders. Equipped with modern amenities, the building will support the Congress’ administrative, organizational, and strategic activities.

Significance of Indira Bhawan

Named after Indira Gandhi, the headquarters stands as a testament to her indelible mark on Indian politics and her role in shaping the Congress party’s identity. The choice of name is also a rallying call for Congress workers to draw inspiration from her leadership during challenging times.

The location of the headquarters at Kotla Road adds to the party’s legacy, standing as a modern counterpart to the historic 24, Akbar Road office.

A Moment of Renewal

Addressing the gathering, Sonia Gandhi emphasized the significance of the new headquarters in the party’s journey forward. “Indira Bhawan is more than a building; it is a symbol of our values, our history, and our commitment to India’s future,” she said.

As the Congress party steps into a new chapter with this inauguration, Indira Bhawan is expected to serve as the nucleus for its political and organizational activities in the years to come.
