Income Tax Department Updates List of 30 Banks for e-Pay Tax Service: Full List Here

Taxpayers can now pay their income tax online through the e-Pay tax service, which includes new banks like Tamilnad Mercantile Bank, IDFC First Bank, and Dhanlaxmi Bank.

Banks for e-Pay Tax Service: The Income Tax (I-T) Department has updated its list of banks where taxpayers can pay their taxes online using the e-Pay tax service on the e-Filing portal. This service helps people pay their taxes easily while filing their income tax returns. Recently, three new banks joined the list – Tamilnad Mercantile Bank (added on March 5, 2025), IDFC First Bank (added on November 27, 2024), and Dhanlaxmi Bank (added on June 26, 2024).

What Is the e-Pay Tax Service?

The e-Pay tax service on the e-Filing portal makes it easy for taxpayers to pay their direct taxes online. It allows users to generate a challan (a payment slip), make the payment, and keep a record of their payment history. This service also supports filing forms like 26QB, 26QC, 26QD, and 26QE, which are used for tax payments related to property transactions and other purposes.

  • Debit card
  • Paying at the bank counter

What If Your Bank Is Not on the List?

If your bank is not on the list of 30 authorised banks, you can still pay your taxes using the E-Pay Tax service. The portal allows payments through non-authorised banks using NEFT (National Electronic Funds Transfer) or RTGS (Real-Time Gross Settlement). You can also use the payment gateway option available on the e-Filing portal to complete your tax payment. This sures that all taxpayers, regardless of their bank, can easily pay their taxes online.

How to Use the e-Pay Tax Service?

To use the e-Pay tax service, visit the official e-Filing portal at incometax.gov.in/iec/foportal/. You can access this service both before logging in (under quick links on the homepage) and after logging into your account.

When Will ITR Filing Start for Assessment Year 2025-26?

ITR filing for Assessment Year 2025-26 will start on April 1, 2025, when offline utilities and online forms go live on the e-Filing portal. For those not requiring an audit, the last date to file returns is July 31, 2025. Stay updated on the official portal for notifications.

Why Is a Challan Important?

When using the e-Pay tax service, you must generate a challan for your tax payment. Each challan has a unique Challan Reference Number (CRN), which helps track your payment.

This update makes it easier for taxpayers to pay their taxes online, supporting the government’s efforts to simplify tax payments and encourage digital transactions.
