Windows 11 Version 25H2: After a lot of guessing whether Microsoft will bring out Windows 12, the company finally cleared things up. On Friday, Microsoft shared that the next big version of Windows is not going to be Windows 12, but instead it will be called Windows 11 version 25H2. This new update will come out later this year. People who are part of the Windows Insider Program can already test it, as Microsoft has released the first preview build.
Jason Leznek from Microsoft wrote that Windows 11 version 25H2 is now available for Insiders ahead of the wider release, which is expected in the second half of 2025.

Lenzek says, “New features we develop for Windows 11, version 25H2 are part of the version 24H2 branch. When the new code is complete, we include it in the monthly LCUs for Windows 11, version 24H2 in a Disabled state.”
This new version doesn’t have any big changes or flashy features. But that doesn’t mean it’s not important. Microsoft will slowly add new features over time as they keep working on them.
Windows 11 Version 25H2: Easy Upgrade
If you’re using version 24H2, updating to 25H2 will be super easy. Microsoft says the update will be as quick as restarting your computer. That’s because both 24H2 and 25H2 use the same system base and update system. It’s not like the last update from 23H2 to 24H2, which took more time and changed the whole setup. This time, it feels more like a normal update you get every month.
Even though Microsoft launched the first 25H2 preview build, it doesn’t have anything new right now. In fact, the update notes look the same as the ones for version 24H2. But new things are coming. Microsoft said that all new features made for 25H2 are actually part of the 24H2 system for now. They’re just hidden and will get turned on later. That means if you’re already on 24H2, you might get the new tools and features soon through monthly updates.

25H2 Release
While we don’t have an exact release date yet, there’s a good chance that version 25H2 might arrive around September or October 2025. That’s also when Microsoft will stop giving support for Windows 10. So, the company could use this timing to push more users to upgrade to Windows 11. If that happens, 25H2 will be a key update for many people moving from Windows 10.
Also, this new version resets the support timeline. For people using the Enterprise edition, the update will give 35 more months of support. For Home and Pro users, they get 24 months. So if you want your PC to stay updated and safe for longer, it’s a good idea to upgrade to version 25H2 when it comes out.
