Who is DK Shivakumar?
Born on May 15, 1962, in Kanakapura, Karnataka, DK Shivakumar began his political journey quite early first through student politics, and then through grassroots Congress activities. Over the years he built a strong web of influence across Karnataka, mainly among the well known Vokkaliga community and it kept growing.
He first stepped into the Karnataka Legislative Assembly in 1989, and since then he stayed pretty dominant in state level politics. At different times he represented Sathanur and later the Kanakapura constituencies also he handled several key portfolios like Energy, Urban Development, Irrigation and Bengaluru Development.
Right now, he is serving as Karnataka’s Deputy Chief Minister, and also as President of the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC), so in practice he is counted among the more influential Congress leaders in southern India.

More recently, there are fresh reports suggesting that Siddaramaiah could resign, and then DK Shivakumar might take charge as Chief Minister. It is being said that senior Congress leaders have had a few rounds of discussions in Delhi to lock in the changeover without too much delay.
Congress MLA Ashok Pattan meanwhile, recently claimed there was a “100 per cent possibility” of Shivakumar becoming the next CM, which has added even more buzz around the whole issue.
Still, the Congress party has officially said nothing final has actually been announced yet. Senior leader Randeep Singh Surjewala also said that the talk about a leadership shift remains speculative, and not something that has been decided already.

Recent visuals of Shivakumar touching Siddaramaiah’s feet during a breakfast meeting in Bengaluru have gone viral and are being viewed as symbolic gestures of unity ahead of a possible transfer of power.
