Casio’s New Japanese Red Lantern G-Shock Watches: Casio has officially expanded its Japan-exclusive Aka Chochin-inspired G-Shock lineup to the United States, and now there are two eye-catching digital watches on offer. They’re designed around a traditional element of Japanese culture. The new DW-5600AKA-4 and DW-6900AKA-4 models have been released in the US, for $190 each after they first debuted in Japan earlier this year.
Casio’s New Japanese Red Lantern G-Shock Watches

This new collection is inspired from Aka Chochin, those famous red paper lanterns you’ll usually spot outside Japanese taverns, restaurants, and izakaya spots. In general they’re tied to hospitality which are also one of the easiest things to recognize in a Japanese streetscape.

Casio then turns the whole cultural vibe into a red-and-black color story. The bright red resin cases and straps mimic the lantern body, while black buttons, band loops and Japanese lettering add a stronger contrast. On the watches, the printed Japanese characters read “Shock Resistant,” and they basically drive home the G-Shock identity.

The collection includes two of Casio’s most iconic digital silhouettes:
