Jharkhand Bandh Today (August 11): Jharkhand is seeing a statewide bandh on Tuesday, August 11, 2026 after the BJP asked for a shutdown to protest what it called alleged police action against students and job aspirants during their march towards the state Assembly in Ranchi on Monday. The bandh was announced from 8 am to midnight so things could be a bit stop and go.
Are Schools Closed in Jharkhand Today?
Right now many schools are either shut completely or have suspended normal classes today , especially in pockets where the bandh impact is heavier. Reports from Ranchi indicate that most schools and business establishments remained closed as the shutdown took effect.
However, there is no basis to assume that every school across every district has been officially closed. Students and parents should check their school’s WhatsApp group, website or official notice before travelling.
Are Banks Open in Jharkhand Today?
There is no confirmed statewide order declaring all banks closed because of the bandh. Bank branches may, however, experience reduced footfall, staff shortages or local disruptions depending on the situation in individual districts. Customers with urgent banking work should check with their branch before travelling.
Online banking, UPI, ATMs and other digital services are generally separate from physical branch operations, although individual service availability can vary.
Are Markets and Shops Closed?
The bandh has affected commercial activity in several parts of Jharkhand. According to the latest reports, most business establishments remained closed, with normal activity disrupted in affected areas.
Jharkhand Bandh Today (August 11): Transport Services
Public transport is among the services facing disruption. Road traffic has been reported to be thin in Ranchi and several other cities, indicating that buses, autos and other forms of public transport may not operate at normal frequency.
What About Trains?
The bandh does not automatically mean that all railway services have been cancelled. Passengers should check the status of their specific train through official railway channels before leaving for the station. Local road blockades or demonstrations could nevertheless affect access to railway stations.

Are Flights Operating?
There is no report of a statewide shutdown of airport or flight operations because of the bandh. Passengers travelling through Ranchi’s Birsa Munda Airport should continue to follow their airline’s latest flight-status updates and allow additional travel time because road movement could be affected.
Why Has BJP Called the Jharkhand Bandh?
According to reports, police used water cannons, tear gas and lathis when protesters crossed barricades during their march towards the Assembly in Ranchi. Police said 14 personnel were injured during the protests and that CCTV footage would be examined to identify people involved in stone-pelting and disruption.
BJP state president Aditya Sahu described the police action as “atrocities” against students and accused the JMM-led government of using force rather than addressing their grievances.
ED Probe
The controversy intensified further after the Enforcement Directorate (ED) initiated a money-laundering investigation into alleged financial irregularities connected with recruitment examinations.
The Jharkhand CID has also arrested former JPSC chairperson L Khiangte in connection with the alleged irregularities. According to the latest Times of India report, the number of people apprehended in the case had reached 20.
The state government has also agreed to cancel the 14th JPSC examination and backlog examinations conducted in 2023 and 2025, according to the report.
