Pitru Paksha Mela 2026: Gaya is rushing to finish road repair work before the Pitru Paksha Mela 2026. The annual mela will run from September 25 to October 10. A large number of people from different parts of India and other countries are expected to reach Gaya for pind daan and other rituals. The Bihar Tourism Department has also listed the same dates for the 2026 mela.
With the festival now only days away, the district administration and Road Construction Department are working on roads used by pilgrims. The main focus is better access to Vishnupad Temple, Gaya railway station, pind daan locations, Falgu River ghats and Bodh Gaya.

35 Roads Marked For Repair Work
The Road Construction Department has selected 35 roads around the mela area and major pilgrimage routes for repair and strengthening. Out of these, 21 roads in Gaya town are directly connected to Vishnupad Temple or serve as approach roads for visitors.
By September 19, repair work on 14 of these 21 roads had been completed. The work includes filling potholes, correcting damaged parts and carrying out other needed road repairs. Work on the remaining roads is still going on, with September 24 fixed as the target date.
Some of the important routes under the programme include Bata More–Railway Hospital–Kazmi More–Mirza Ghalib College Road, Kashinath More–Bata More–Gurudwara Road, West Church Road, Gewal Bigha Road and Godavari Road.
Other important roads include Gaya-Bodh Gaya Road, Chand Chaura–Ramsagar–Koiribari Road, Gaya Station–Gurudwara–Golpatthar Chowk Road and Chand Chaura–Vishnupad–Bengali Ashram–NH-82 Road.

Traffic, Parking And Other Mela Arrangements
Road work is being carried out along with wider preparations for the mela. Officials are also looking at traffic movement so repair work doesn’t create major problems for residents and pilgrims. The administration has created 21 cells to manage different parts of the event. These include roads, traffic, transport, electricity, sanitation, drinking water, health, accommodation, security and disaster management. Special traffic arrangements are also being planned in Bodh Gaya from September 25 to October 10. These include vehicle restrictions, route changes, barricading and designated parking areas.
The administration is reviewing the work regularly as September 25 gets closer. Along with roads, preparations also include lighting, parking, drinking water and sanitation so pilgrims can move around the mela area more easily.
