AAP ‘youth leader’ arrested for theft in Delhi

In connection with the robbery which took place on March 12 in east Delhi, six persons including an AAP youth wing leader has been booked. JCP  Ravira Yadav says that the arrested have been identified as Najeeb, his brother Naved, Jitendra a.k.a. Jhonny, Yusuf a.k.a. Faisal, Nadeem a.k.a Furkan and Shadaab.

“The accused has been expelled from the party with immediate effect. The law should take its own course,” Deepak Bajpai, AAP national media in- charge said, reported Indian Express.

Najeeb, who is also the president of the AAP youth wing is Jaffrabad and his brother provided logistical support to the plan and get returns in the stolen gold or cash. The burglary of March 12, the group schemed around Rs 25 lakh, a mobile phone and some documents from a person in Maujpur. They also opened fire, during which a passerby sustained injuries.

They could flee but Nadeem was caught by a passerby and was then taken to the police. This was followed by the arrest of the rest of the group. Police claimed to have recovered Rs 16 lakh in cash, a countrymade pistol, an Apache motorcycle and a bag containing a pan card and other documents from them.

On investigation, the thieves said that they took help from the brothers to hide and dispose of the stolen items because the brothers had a good reputation in the area. The accused confessed his involvement in over 20 such cases.  Police said they are trying to establish Najeeb’s involvement in other cases as well. Najeeb is pursuing graduation from Delhi University’s school of open learning.

 Delhi BJP president Manoj Tiwari said the reported arrest of Najeeb and his accomplices shows that the “party has become an abode of anti-social elements”.
