Chennai: South Actor turned politician Rajinikanth on Saturday said that one should maintain ‘Caution’ over women’s entry in Sabarimala, years old tradition being followed, in a response to the Supreme Court verdict on entry of women of all age groups into the temple premise in Kerala, which followed a violent protest against it.

Rajinikanth said we should respect the unique religious traditions of each temple. He was interacting with the press for the first time on this matter, on his return from the shooting of Petta at Chennai airport.

“There is no contradictory opinion on women having equal rights. But when it comes to a temple, each will have its own set of beliefs and traditions that have been followed over the years. It is my humble opinion that nobody should interfere in those,” he said.

When a journalist confronted him with the Supreme Court judgment regarding the issue, he immediately softens his stand and urged for exercising caution over religious matters.

“I am not saying that we must not ignore it, but in issues concerning religion and rituals. Caution must be exercised,” said Rajini.

Kerala has been witnessing a sequence of violent protest against the entry of girls and women of all ages into the temple premise since the government has said it would follow the Court order.
