The cyber cell of Ahmedabad police arrested Congress leader Hardik Patel from Viramgam in Ahmedabad district on Saturday night for not turning up in the court in connection with the trial of sedition case registered back in 2015 during the violent agitation for reservation for Patidar community.

The police produced Hardik before the judge at the latter’s residence late in the night from where he was sent to Sabarmati Central Jail in judicial custody till January 24.

“We have arrested Haridk Patel from near Viramgam after the court issued a non-bailable warrant against him. We will produce him before the court tomorrow,” DCP Rajdeepsinh Zala said as quoted by several eports.

Patel had been previously arrested in connection with a sedition case filed by the local Crime Branch after violence broke out during a rally in Ahmedabad on August 25, 2015.

The leader was granted bail in July, 2016, and the court had, in November 2018, framed charges against him and other accused in the case.
