Airstrikes will help BJP win at least 22 Lok Sabha seats in Karnataka: BS Yeddyurappa

Amid rising Indo-Pak tension, Karnataka’s Bharatiya Janata Party Chief BS Yeddyurappa said that India’s pre-emptive strikes on terror camps in Pakistan has created a wave in favour of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and will help the party win over 22 of 28 seats in the state in the coming Lok Sabha polls.

“The atmosphere….day by day the wind is increasingly blowing in favour of BJP. Yesterday’s action of destroying terror hideouts by entering inside Pakistan has resulted in a pro-Modi wave in the country, the results of which can be seen in coming Lok Sabha polls,” Yeddyurappa said on Wednesday while speaking to reporters in Chitradurga.

Yeddyurappa, who has begun campaigning for the Bharatiya Janata Party in the state, further said, “Prime Minister Narendra Modi had said he would avenge the killings of CRPF soldiers in the Pulwama terror attack. The whole country has welcomed this and so have the opposition parties. Youth are dancing and celebrating. The result of this is that it is easy for us to now win more than 22 Lok Sabha seats here (Karnataka).”

Yeddyurappa’s remarks came in for sharp criticism from Congress leaders, who took to Twitter to condemn the statement. Congress’s Karnataka unit president Dinesh Gundu Rao said the BJP leader’s statement was disgusting.

“Most disgusting shameful irresponsible statement made by BS Yeddyurappa. Using the J&K situation for political benefit. Is winning elections becoming the criteria for BJP & not the security of India. Is going to war a electoral strategy for the BJP,” he tweeted.

Currently, BJP holds 16 Lok Sabha seats in Karnataka, Congress 10 and JD(S) 2.
