The annual holy yatra of Amarnath in south Kashmir Himalayas will begin from July 1, 2019, and will conclude on August 15, 2019.

From the twin routes of Baltal in Ganderbal and Pahalgam in Anantnag districts on July 1, the pilgrimage to the shrine will commence.

With just a few days left for the yatra to start, the security arrangements for it has been scaled up. The authorities have decided to issue a slip which will be barcode enabled to keep track of the actual number of people traveling to and from the cave shrine.

The annual yatra to the 3,880 meters high Amarnath shrine is scheduled to begin from the traditional Pahalgam track in Anantnag district and shorter Baltal track in Ganderbal district. As per the reports, over 1.10 lakh pilgrims have registered for the annual yatra.

 Nearby airport to Amarnath

The closest airport to reach the holy shrine of Amarnath is Srinagar. The Srinagar airport is located at a distance of around 95 km from Pahalgam which is the base camp of Amarnath.

Weather Conditions

Pilgrims have to be wary of the health problems as the Holy cave is situated at an altitude of 13,500 feet above sea level at South Kashmir Himalayas. The temperature may anytime fall below five degree Celsius. The oxygen level in the air is very low due to which many pilgrims face respiratory problems. The high altitude trek to the Holy cave involves exposure to extreme cold, low humidity, UV radiations, and less air pressure.

Security arrangements

The barcode will capture all the information of pilgrims and it can be easily accessed. In order to protect the pilgrims and minimize the accidents, tight security arrangements are put in places.

The online booking for the helicopter bookings for the annual yatra can be done at the official website. The services are being provided by the private operators on both the routes to Holy cave at the rates approved by Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board (SASB) the booking of the tickets can be done online or through agents.

The Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board which organizes and manages the yatra in 2017 introduced Group registration.   It aims to facilitate registration of those pilgrims who wants to travel in a group along with relatives, friends or neighbors.
