In a big development in Amritsar train tragedy, Punjab Cabinet Ministers Navjot Singh Sidhu and his wife Navjot Kaur have been summoned by a one-man commission conducting an inquiry in the tragic matter. Senior IAS officer B Purushartha, who is conducting the inquiry in Amritsar, has asked the duo to appear before the commission on November 2.
According to the reports, all aspects of the tragic accident would be probed, and if required, the train driver and the gateman would also be summoned.
Navjot Kaur was the chief guest at the Dussehra event where the train tragedy took place. 60 people had lost their lives in the accident and an equal number were injured.
Opposition leaders and locals had claimed that Navjot Kaur, a former MLA, had left the scene after the accident instead of helping the victims.
The investigations so far in the case suggest that the Dussehra event was held without seeking mandatory permissions. One of the permission was supposed to be given by the municipal corporation which comes under the purview of the local government department headed by Sidhu.
