Veteran actor Sumita Sanyal passed away at 71 at her Lake Gardens home in Kolkata on Sunday.
She had made a notable contribution to Bollywood, as well as to the Bengali film industry. She is mostly remembered for her character in Hrishikesh Mukherjee-directed, Anand in 1970 opposite Amitabh Bachchan, which also featured Rajesh Khanna.
According to family sources, Sanyal was ailing for some time, and suffered a cardiac arrest around 10.30 am on Sunday and did not survive it.
The actress had also worked opposite Uttam Kumar and Sanjeev Kumar.
She had worked in some of the iconic movies of yesteryears including Nayak, Sagina Mahato, Mere Apne and Guddi, opposite Jaya Bhaduri.
