Another farmer hangs himself in Madhya Pradesh, suicide toll reaches 13

A 60-year old farmer allegedly hanged himself on Sunday in Madhya Pradesh. Pyare Lal Oud of Pipiliya Vyas village hanged himself from the branch of a tree in his field in Neemuch district. The recent death took the death toll of agriculture-related suicides in Madhya Pradesh to 13 since the June 6 violent protests in Mandsaur.

Notably, Pyare Lal had taken a loan of Rs 2.5 lakh from a bank. He was also stressed over his daughter’s second marriage, reported HT.

The body of the farmer Pyare Lal was sent for post mortem, Hitesh Patil, town inspector (TI) Neemuch City told HT. “We have started an investigation into why this farmer hanged himself in his field”, he said.

Madhya Pradesh is unrest and in the headlines since June 6, when five farmers died in police firing during demonstrations. The farmers are demanding a loan waiver and better prices for their crop.

The farmer suicide continues in Madhya Pradesh’s Mandsaur. As many as 13 farmers have ended their lives so far.
