In a shocking incident, a middle-aged man was beaten to death by municipality employees as he was allegedly trying to stop them from scaring women defecating in open and taking their pictures in Pratapgarh town on Friday.

The incident took place near Bagwasa Kachi Basti area at around 6.30 am. The municipality staff tried to scare away women defecating in the open and took photographs of them.

But soon, Zafar Khan intervened and stopped them from taking pictures. But in retaliation, the employees kicked, punched and beat Khan with a stick to death.

The FIR was later lodged by Khan’s elder brother Noor Mohammed against Kamal Harijan, Ritesh Harijan, Manish Harijan, Nagar Parishad commissioner Ashok Jain and others. The police have also registered a case of murder, said Pratapgarh Kotwali police.

“We are getting the matter investigated and a case has been registered against four named accused in the FIR,” said Pratapgarh Superintendent of Police, Shivraj Meena, reported Firstpost.

The body has been kept at district hospital for postmortem and security has been deployed considering the sensitivity of the matter and to maintain law and order. “We are investigating the case and no arrests have been made so far”, he said.

The cases of lynching in Rajasthan bring no newness. Recently, another incident has been reported from Barmer district of Rajasthan where a man was thrashed to death by six people on May 13. The accused have been detained in link with the case.
