Apple MacBook Neo: Apple’s new laptop called the MacBook Neo has now appeared in its first performance tests. The results give an early idea of how powerful the device is. The new MacBook Neo uses the A18 Pro chip. This is the same processor that Apple put inside the iPhone 16 Pro.

In benchmark tests shared by macrumors.com the laptop showed strong results. On Geekbench it scored 3461 points in the single core test and 8668 points in the multi core test. In the Metal graphics test the device reached a score of 31,286, which shows its graphics power.

Because the MacBook Neo and the iPhone 16 Pro use the same chip design their performance is very close in many CPU tasks. This is why both devices show similar benchmark results.

Performance Compared with Other Apple Devices

The MacBook Neo has a 6-core CPU, the same as the iPhone 16 Pro. But the graphics setup is a little different. The iPhone 16 Pro includes six GPU cores, while the MacBook Neo has only 5. Because of one less GPU core, the laptop’s graphics performance is slightly lower.

When compared with older Mac models the MacBook Neo sits in an interesting position. The Apple MacBook Air with the M1 chip scored 2346 points in single core performance and 8342 in multi core tests. This means the MacBook Neo is clearly faster in single core speed and only slightly stronger in multi core performance.

However newer Macs are still more powerful. The MacBook Air with the M4 chip performs much higher with 3696 points in single core and 14,730 points in multi core performance. This puts the M4 model in a completely different level for demanding tasks.

The MacBook Neo also performs below some other Apple devices. For example the iPad Air with the M3 chip scores around 11,678 points in multi core performance. At the same time the new laptop still performs better than entry level devices like the Apple iPad 11th generation, which scores about 6036 points in the same test.

Designed for Everyday use and Budget Buyers

Apple is positioning the MacBook Neo as a more affordable laptop option. The company wants it to compete with budget Windows laptops and Chromebooks.

Apple says the A18 Pro chip can run everyday tasks up to 50% faster than many laptops that use Intel Core Ultra 5 processors. The company also says that for artificial intelligence work the speed can be up to three times higher.

The MacBook Neo is made mainly for simple daily use. It can handle things like browsing the internet, writing documents and watching videos without problems. But it is not meant for very heavy tasks like advanced video editing or complex 3D design.

The laptop starts at a price of $599. Apple has already opened pre orders for the device. Official sales are expected to begin on March 11.
