Arsenal fan wears club shirt wins bronze at Rio Olympics

Following the success of his compatriot, Kuwati shooter Abdullah al-Rashidi won a bronze medal in the men’s skeet while wearing an Arsenal t-shirt. His choice of attire grabbed eye balls, as he is competing under IOC’s flag due to Kuwait’ ban at Rio Olympics 2016.

Kuwaiti athletes have been forced to compete as independent athletes after the IOC banned the county’s Olympic committee following government interference. Given the international team do not have an official kit to wear, he opted to wear an Arsenal training shirt underneath his shooting vest.

The 49-year-old has won bronze twice before, once at 2000 Sydney Olympics and another in London 2012.

His triumph came after Fehaid Al-Deehani won Kuwait’s debut gold medal in the double trap in the first week. He witnessed a narrow 16-14 victory and while Al-Rashidi celebrated his third Olympic medal, users on social media cited the usual practice of Arsenal reaching the top four every season and missing out on the top spot, thus drawing parallels between him missing gold and the team.
