Arunachal’s first artist residency programme begins from February 1

Arunachal Pradesh’s first ever artist residency programme will start on February I at Gori village in Basar and will and will culminate in an exhibition and celebration on February 23.
Titled Basar confluence, the residency is open to photographers, filmmakers, writers, musicians, and painters.
Five handpicked artists will be invited to live and collaborate in Basar over three weeks in February.
The celebration over 22-23rd of February will mark the traditional harvest festival, Mopin, community fishing and have performances from some of the best contemporary acts of India including MTV Europe Music Award for Best Indian Act 2016, Prateek Kuhad.
The festival is organised by a local non-profit Organisation Gumin Rego Kilaju (GRK).
“We want to take forward the initiatives of living harmoniously with nature and the process of creating opportunities,” GRK chairman Jummar Basar said in a press statement.
“The confluence of ideas and efforts make our society a better place to live in and we want to trace and nurture the roots of traditions and cultures,” he added.
Basar is geographically located in the centre of Arunachal Pradesh, India, and is home to the Galos, one of the 26 major tribes of the state.
