Ashish Pandey, who brandished gun outside Delhi’s 5 star hotel, surrenders in Delhi Court

Ashish Pandey, the son of former BSP MP Rakesh Pandey, who went missing after threatening a couple and brandishing a pistol outside Delhi’s Hyatt Regency hotel, surrendered at a Delhi court on Thursday after a non-bailable warrant was issued against him on Wednesday night.

Pandey moved an application at the Patiala House Court in Delhi, asking it to direct the police to take him into custody in the “interest of justice”.

He was caught on camera pulling out a pistol at south Delhi’s Hyatt Regency hotel early on Sunday to allegedly threaten Gaurav Kanwar, son of a former Congress MLA, and a woman companion.

Before surrendering, Pandey released a video message saying that has been “framed” and subjected to a media trial. Pandey said that being a politician’s son is no crime. He alleged that the ‘media trial’ that has projected him as a ‘terrorist’ was showing only one side of the story and added that the other side of the story will be told to the court.

“I am a businessman and it is not a crime to be a politician’s son. There is no case of even slapping anyone. It is a licensed gun and I have never misbehaved with anyone,” Ashish Pandey said in the video, adding, “I am being projected as if I am a terrorist. I took the gun with me for safety. I didn’t brandish it. It was hanging behind me all the time. I didn’t even address that girl. If you check CCTV footage, you’ll find who went to ladies toilet that night and who threatened whom. My media trial has been undertaken. A lookout circular has been issued against me. It is being shown only in one angle. I have faith in judiciary, so I decided to surrender,” he added.

In a video, Ashish Pandey and his friends were heard abusing the man who used the ladies’ washroom at the porch of the Hyatt Regency Hotel. Pandey then pulled out his gun and threatened the couple. The video of the incident went viral on social media resulting in a massive public outrage prompting the police to step in and launch a hunt for the accused.
