On Friday, Indian boxers Amit Panghal and Pooja Rani won gold medal at the Asian Boxing Championships. Amit Panghal defeated Korea’s Kim Inkyu in 52kg category while Pooja Rani defeated reigning world champion Wang Lina in 81kg category to bag the gold medal for India.

After winning the gold medal at the Asian Games in 49kg category last year, Amit Panghal continued his dominance in the Asian Boxing Championships by winning successive gold medal but this time moving up to 52kg. This was his maiden international competition since moving up to 52kg from 49kg earlier this year.

On the other side, just a couple of hours after Amit Panghal won India their first, Pooja Rani gave India its second gold medal by defeating reigning world champion Wang Lina in 81kg category.

India finished the Asian Boxing Championships with 13 medals – 2 gold medals, 4 silver and 7 bronze medals, out of which, men won one gold, 3 silver and 3 bronze while the women bagged one gold, one silver and 4 bronze medals.
