Bank Holiday from March 26: Anyone thinking of going to a bank branch this week should check the holiday schedule first. In many parts of India, bank branches are set to stay shut for four days in a row because festival holidays and the weekend are coming together. That means Wednesday, March 25, 2026 is the last easy day for many people to finish branch work before this break starts. The state-wise holiday pattern for March 26 and March 27 is being widely reported from the RBI holiday calendar, and the all-India closures on fourth Saturday and Sunday also apply.
Complete Guide to Bank Holidays in April 2026
This long gap will affect only physical branch work. So if someone needs to visit a bank counter for an important task, waiting too long could create trouble. Online banking will still keep working.
The Four Dates People Should Watch
March 26, 2026: Banks will be closed in many cities for Shree Ram Navami. Reports based on the RBI holiday list say closures are expected in places such as Ahmedabad, Aizawl, Belapur, Chandigarh, Dehradun, Jaipur, Kanpur, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai, Nagpur, Ranchi and Shimla.
- March 27, 2026: Some states will again have bank holidays for Shree Ram Navami (Chaite Dasain). The reported closure list includes Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Gangtok, Hyderabad, Patna and Vijayawada. So in these places, the break continues into Friday as well.
- March 28, 2026: This is the fourth Saturday, so banks will remain closed across India.
- March 29, 2026: Sunday is the regular weekly bank holiday across the country, so branches will stay shut everywhere.
Because of this pattern, many customers may see a full four-day break in branch service from Thursday to Sunday. Still, holiday rules in India are region-based in many cases, so it is smart to check with the local branch if there is any doubt. Some also note that some cities may remain open on March 26 if Ram Navami is not treated as a gazetted holiday there.
What will Work and What will Not
Even when branches are closed, digital banking does not stop. People can still use mobile banking apps, internet banking, UPI, ATMs, and online transfer systems like NEFT and RTGS during these holidays. That means sending money, checking balances, and doing many daily banking tasks should still be possible without going to a branch.
But work that needs a bank counter will have to wait. Things like cash deposits at the branch, in-person account help, demand drafts, and physical cheque submission may not be possible while the branches are shut.
RBI Holiday List in March 2026: Banks to Remain Closed for 11 Days in March; Full City-Wise Schedule
March is already a busy holiday month for banks. Public reporting based on the RBI calendar says there are around 17 to 18 bank holidays in March 2026 depending on location, because regional festival holidays are different from state to state.
One important update also changes the year-end picture. March 31, 2026 was earlier listed as a Mahavir Jayanti holiday in several states, but the RBI has directed agency bank branches dealing with government business to remain open for public transactions on that day so year-end government receipts and payments can be completed.
