A day after it was announced by Congress that party chief Rahul Gandhi is set to contest from Wayanad besides Amethi in the upcoming elections, reports suggest that Prime Minister Narendra Modi could also similarly contest from two constituencies.

Modi is likely to contest Lok Sabha elections from Gujarat’s Surat constituency besides Varanasi – a constituency from which he is sitting Member of Parliament.

In the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, PM Modi had won from Varanasi and Vadodara. For the upcoming elections, PM Modi’s candidature for the Varanasi constituency has already been declared by the party.

Reportedly, state BJP leaders have asked the Prime Minister to contest from Gujarat as that could give moral boost party workers’ in the state after in the 2017 Assembly elections, the party though, went on to form the government but failed to cross the 100 mark in the state with 180 Vidhan Sabha seats.

PM Modi has earlier been associated to Lok Sabha constituencies like Puri and Pathanamthitta. On both of the seats, candidates have been declared by the party, ending all the speculation. While from Puri, BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra will contest polls, in the Kerala’ Pathanamthitta seat, saw the party fielding K Surendran.

The Congress party on Sunday, March 31, had declared the nomination of its party president from the Wayanad constituency.

The 26 Lok Sabha seats in Gujarat will go for vote in the third phase of elections, ie on April 23. The last date of filing nominations is April 4.
