Bihar Congress Vice President Brajesh Kumar – also known as Brajesh Pandey has given his resignation from his post after he has been charged in a case of sexual exploitation of a minor girl. Brajesh has been charged under Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act on account of a supervision letter submitted by CID Women’s cell DSP Mamta Kalyani.

IGP (Weaker Section) Anil Kishore Yadav while refusing to reveal any further details said that the inquiry is on in the matter. Pandey’s name has been included in the case together with key accused Nikhil Priyadarshi.

The victim is a daughter of a former state minister, also from the Congress. She alleged that Nikhil Priyadarshi duped her saying he would marry and then blackmailed her with his brother, another co-accused and a Congress leader.

A FIR has been filed with SC/ST police station in Patna. Nikhil Priyadarshi and the other co-accused have been missing after a local court lately discarded their anticipatory bail.

The girl appeared on local channels on Tuesday and talked about the harassment. She alleges that Brajesh, who was introduced to her as a big politician, used to threaten her with terrible consequences. She accused him of being caught up in a sex racket as well.

After the issue came to the light, Brajesh resigned from his position saying, “I do not want that the party suffers in any manner because of me”. He has already directed his resignation letter to state party president Ashok Choudhary.

State party spokesman Harkhu Jha said that the state president has accepted the resignation.
