The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Nitish Kumar’s Janata Dal (United) on Tuesday finalised the seat-sharing pact for the polling in Bihar that will be held in three-phase on October 28, November 3, and November 7. Results will be declared on November 10.

Addressing the media, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar announced that out of 243 seats, the JD(U) has been allotted 122 seats. It is from this quota that the JD(U) has given 7 seats to Jitan Ram Manjhi’s Hindustan Awam Morcha (HAM).

“JD(U) has been allotted 122 seats. Under that quota, we are giving 7 seats to HAM. BJP has 121 seats. Talks are underway, BJP will allot seats to Vikassheel Insaan Party under their quota,” he said.

On October 5, the JD(U) had announced the names of 25 candidates and today the party has announced the second list of candidates as well. Meanwhile, BJP today has also announced its first list of the candidates.

After the Lok Janshakti Party walked out of an alliance in Bihar but preferred to continue with its ties with the NDA at the Centre, the BJP state unit on Tuesday asserted that there was no back door alliance with the party led by Chirag Paswan. “Our party is contesting the elections under Nitish’s leadership. Whosoever goes against him or challenges him will not be a part of the NDA,” said BJP Bihar unit chief Sanjay Jaiswal.
