Bihar crime statistics 2025: Bihar recorded fewer serious crimes in 2025 compared to 2024 because of stronger and faster police work. State Director General of Police Vinay Kumar shared this information on Friday. He said better planning, strict action, and improved policing helped control crime across the state during the year.

While talking about police performance, the DGP said the force managed law and order well even while conducting the state assembly elections. He explained that the police studied crime data from both years and saw a clear drop in many serious offences.

He said “We have carried out comparative analysis of major crimes which shows that murder cases fell by 8.3 per cent, rape by 8.2 per cent, dacoity cases by 26.9 per cent, and riots cases by 21.5 per cent in 2025 in comparison to the year 2024 due to swift action by the police.”

The DGP shared exact figures to explain the change. He said Bihar recorded 2,556 murder cases in 2025, while the number stood at 2,786 in 2024. Rape cases also came down. The state reported 2,025 rape cases in 2025 compared to 2,205 cases in the previous year. Dacoity cases dropped sharply from 238 in 2024 to 174 in 2025. Riot cases also fell from 3,186 to 2,502 during the same period.

Vinay Kumar said police action played a big role in this improvement. Between January and December 2025, police arrested 3,61,364 lakh people in major criminal cases. During this period, police recovered 4,963 illegal firearms and seized 30,133 cartridges. They also shut down 74 mini gun factories operating inside the state.

He said better intelligence gathering helped reduce communal tension incidents over time. The police kept a close watch and acted early to stop trouble from spreading.

Action against corrupt cops, Maoists, and cyber crime

When asked about police staff involved in wrongdoing, the DGP took a firm stand. He said, “We will not tolerate such incidents. We will send such personnel to jail after lodging FIRs, besides ensuring their dismissal from service.” He made it clear that no officer would get protection if found guilty.

On land disputes, he said police have a very small role. He explained, “the police’s role in resolving land disputes is negligible.” He added that land-related issues make up around 50 to 60 per cent of total criminal cases. To deal with this, Circle Offices will now hold meetings every Saturday. The local SHO will also attend these meetings to hear public complaints.

The DGP also spoke about Maoist activity in Bihar. He said the state has not seen Maoist violence for the last two years. In 2025, police arrested 134 Maoists, while 44 were arrested in 2024. Out of the 134 arrested last year, six Maoists surrendered before the police. Security forces also seized 70 regular weapons and 15,552 live cartridges from extremist groups.

Talking about cyber crime, Vinay Kumar said the police have created a separate cybercrime control wing. A senior IG or ADG rank officer will lead it. Cybercrime and narcotics now have their own verticals, which earlier worked under the Economic Offence Unit. He said, “These two areas will be a challenge for us.”

He shared that the NCRP helpline number 1930 received 27.96 lakh cyber-related complaint calls till December 31, 2025. In the same year, police arrested 1,050 cyber criminals across 6,319 cases registered in cyber police stations across Bihar.
