Bihar toppers scam: Accused Diwakar Prasad found dead in Patna

An accused in Rs 8 crore Bihar School Examination Board (BSEB) tender scam, Diwakar Prasad was found dead under mysterious circumstances, after which her relatives alleged that he was murdered by the state police.

In his early 50s, Prasad, was found dead in front of his house located under the jurisdiction of Kotwali police station on Thursday. His son Vicky accused the police of pushing Prasad from the rooftop, resulting to his death.

Denying the charge, the police have claimed that Prasad had jumped off the building after seeing the cops who had gone to arrest him, a ‘The Telegraph‘ reprt had said.

A police team had gone to nab Prasad at his home in a case related to irregularities in floating tender for supply of answer sheets of Intermediate examination to BSEB. An Ahmedabad-based firm had lodged a case with the Kotwali police station in Patna.

Diwakar was the owner of a printing press, which was earlier raided by the special investigation team (SIT), which is investigating the Intermediate topper scam. It also seized a few bundles of the answer sheets from Diwakar’s printing press.

Patna senior superintendent of police (SSP) Manu Maharaajwas quoted as saying that the case was lodged with the Bahadurpur police station against a few cops on the statement of the victim’s relatives.

The CCTV footage from the buildings had been obtained and action would be initiated against cops if the allegations were found to be true against them he told the paper.

His death coincides with an order of economic offences wing on the seizure of assets of the prime accused in the scam.
