The incident has again brought attention to violence linked to witchcraft accusations. Bihar passed the Prevention of Witch (Daain) Practices Act in 1999 to prevent such practices and the abuse of women accused of witchcraft. Despite the law, such accusations can still put women’s lives at risk.
