In an appalling incident, a 24-year-old youth was mob-lynched on suspicion of being a thieve at Korigama village under the Goroul police station area in Vaishali district in the wee hours of Friday.
The incident took place around 2 am when the youth was reportedly spotted trying to break open the locks of a shop located at Korigama village on Friday. The mob thrashed the youth and he died on the spot.
The police said the deceased was identified as Subash Rai, a resident of Jadhua village under the Ganga Bridge police station area in Vaishali district. The family members, however, told the police that Rai had left home around 8 pm on Thursday to meet a colleague. His body was found at Korigama village early on Friday morning.
The SP said the Goroul police reached the spot after being informed about the incident by the village chowkidar on Friday morning. “The body bore external injuries. The victim had died before the police reached the spot. Later the body was sent to the Sadar hospital at Hajipur for postmortem,” the SP said, adding that action would be initiated against those taking the law into their hands.
A close relative of the deceased, however, claimed that the deceased had called his family members and revealed that he had been held captive by some local residents near Korigama village and was subsequently beaten up mercilessly.
“He had succumbed to his injuries by the time his relatives reached the spot,” an investigating officer quoted a family member as saying.
Meanwhile, the deceased’s body was handed over to the family after postmortem. A case has been lodged with the Goroul police station against unidentified persons in connection with the incident.
