Bharatiya Janta Party Spokesperson Shaina NC on Saturday registered a complaint with Mumbai Police alleging that she has been abused on Facebook after she posted an interview with a private channel on her page.

According to HT reports, she was informed by her personal assistant Sagarika Shinde about the unacceptable comments by Shaikh Akmal Azmi. She alleged that Azmi is a political worker of All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM), the party headed by Asaduddin Owaisi.

The Mumbai police acted on the complaint and registered a case under section 500 (punishment for defamation) and 509 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) of the Indian Penal Code along with relevant sections of the Information Technology Act 2000.

Confirming the news, deputy commissioner of police, Dyaneshwar Chanvan, said, “We have registered a case and are investigating it very thoroughly.”

Shaina said,“I think this is just disgusting that people have this kind of mindset. We went through his Facebook profile and he has posted about Asaduddin Owaisi and AIMIM all over his page. In that case, I would like to ask Owaisi if he encourages this behaviour where the woman is so scared to come out in the open and register a complaint.”

An officer from Malabar Hill police station said, “After Shaina posted the link, Shaikh abused her in a comment on Friday and after it was brought to her notice by her secretary, she came to the police station and registered a case.”
