BMC Election 2026: With only a few days left for the important BMC Election 2026, the BJP, Shiv Sena, and Republican Party of India (RPI-A) came together and released a joint election manifesto. The alliance promised many big changes for Mumbai.

These promises focus on housing, transport, women’s support, environment, and city development. Senior leaders were present when the manifesto came out, including Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, and Union Minister Ramdas Athawale.

The leaders said their plan aims to improve daily life for people living in Mumbai. They said the city needs fast action on housing, transport, and safety. The manifesto tries to show a clear vision for the next five years and beyond.

Big Relief for Women and Housing Promise

Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde announced a major relief for women during the manifesto launch. He said women under the ‘Ladki Bahin’ scheme will get a 50% discount on BEST bus ticket fares. This benefit will work just like the concession already given on state-run ST buses. An official statement from Shinde’s office confirmed this decision and said it will help women travel at lower cost every day.

The alliance also made strong promises on housing. The Mahayuti said it will make Mumbai slum-free and pagdi-free within five years. It promised to build 40 lakh affordable homes across the city. The plan also includes bringing back original Mumbai residents who had moved outside due to lack of housing. The alliance said it will give them proper and respectful homes inside the city.

Redevelopment

Eknath Shinde said the government will speed up redevelopment work across Mumbai. He said solutions will come for old pagdi buildings, funnel zone affected structures, cluster redevelopment projects, and housing for mill workers. The alliance promised homes for 1.10 lakh mill workers. It also said people living in dangerous buildings will move to safe flats with modern facilities.

Marathi Identity and City Growth

The alliance promised to protect Marathi language and traditions. It plans to set up a separate Marathi language department in the municipal corporation. It will also open Marathi art centres, study rooms, and special programmes for Marathi youth. These events will mark Balasaheb Thackeray’s birth centenary.

On environment and transport, the Mahayuti promised to spend Rs 17,000 crore on green projects to reduce pollution. It said BEST buses will become fully electric by 2029. The alliance also plans to increase the BEST bus fleet from 5,000 to 10,000 buses. It also promised cold storage facilities for fish vendors in BMC markets.

The manifesto includes support for women and small businesses. It promised interest-free loans of up to Rs 5 lakh for women and self-help groups to boost self-employment. It also announced start-up incubation centres and a new small industries policy.

On illegal immigration, the alliance said it will identify and deport illegal Bangladeshi and Rohingya immigrants. The goal is to create what it called a “Mumbai free from illegal infiltration”.

Replying to opposition attacks, Shinde said city finances remain strong. He said municipal deposits have increased even after spending heavily on welfare schemes. He also said the Mumbai Development Plan 2034 will guide the city’s long-term growth and future planning.
