CalWORKS One-Time Payment Eligibility and Amounts Explained

CalWORKS One-Time Payment: The one-time payment, which the Golden State Grant (GSG) is funding, has a significant value of $600. The purpose of this payment is to offer assistance to recipients of the Cash Assistance Program for Immigrants (CAPI) and Supplemental Security Income (SSI)/State Supplementary Payment (SSP) who have encountered financial difficulties as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Therefore, at the time of application, eligibility for the Golden State Grant requires receipt of SSI/SSP or CAPI. A recipient will not be required to take any action to qualify; the program is distributed automatically to eligible citizens.

SSI/SSP recipients consist of elderly, blind, or disabled individuals with restricted financial means and means of subsistence. Immigrants who meet the CAPI program’s eligibility requirements but are not eligible for federal SSI benefits because of their immigration status are eligible to receive benefits funded by California.

Furthermore, per federal directives, the $600 payment received from the GSG shall not be deducted from the SSI/SSP resource cap, which is set at $3,000 for couples and $2,000 for individuals.

Is it possible to obtain CalWORKS on multiple occasions?

The California welfare program, CalWORKS, offers eligible low-income families temporary cash assistance and a range of services to promote their self-sufficiency. Recipients must fulfill particular work prerequisites and engage in welfare-to-work initiatives.

The benefits package may consist of financial assistance, child care, and vocational education. The objective of the program is to assist families in attaining sustained economic autonomy and stability.

Consequently, recipients of CalWORKS are eligible to receive a monthly cash benefit for a maximum of sixty months, subject to possible extensions of the time limit. The 60-month limit is a lifetime cap, which means that an individual will no longer be eligible for CalWORKs cash benefits after receiving benefits for a total of 60 months.

Nevertheless, extensions and exemptions are feasible in specific situations. For example, certain individuals who satisfy certain criteria, such as being disabled without receiving Supplemental Security Income (SSI) or providing care for a disabled or ill person in their household, may be eligible for a time extension.
