Monday, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) issued a warning to students and parents regarding rumours of leaked question papers for board exams. The board has also cautioned students against engaging in rumor-spreading and stated that they will be punished under “unfair means” regulations if their involvement is discovered.

“It has come to the attention of the board that certain unscrupulous elements are regularly spreading rumours on YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, and other social media platforms about paper leaks or claiming to have access to 2023 exam question papers,” a senior board official stated.

“These individuals, groups, and organisations intend to extort money from gullible students and parents. These irresponsible actions cause confusion and panic among students and the general public. “The board is vigilant and proactive in identifying those who spread fake news and rumours and taking action against them,” he added.

The CBSE examinations for Classes 10 and 12 are currently underway and will conclude on April 5.

According to officials, the CBSE regularly informs the Delhi Police to take stern action against those involved in the dissemination of fake news via social media platforms under various IPC and IT Act provisions.

If a student is found to be spreading fake news, the CBSE will take action under “unfair means” rules and various sections of the Indian Penal Code. Parents are also urged to instruct their children not to believe such rumours and not to engage in any activity that impedes the smooth administration of board examinations.

“The public is warned against such unconfirmed news and rumours during the ongoing examinations and asked not to participate in such activities or spread such information through any form of communication in order to preserve the sanctity of the examinations at all costs,” the official stated.
