Delhi riots case: A Delhi court has granted conditional bail to former municipal councilor Tahir Hussain, an accused in the Delhi riots case. Pulastya Pramachala, the Additional Sessions Judge in the case, ordered the accused and his surety to register their contact information. Additionally, the court informed the accused that he would not be allowed to leave the country without the court’s permission.
What is the charge against Tahir Hussain?
During the evening of 25 February 2020, former municipal councilor Tahir Hussain, along with 40-50 of his associates, raided Karan’s e-rickshaw showroom located on Khajuri Khas main road, according to the victim Karan’s complaint to the Khajuri Khas police. The fire was then started. The police arrested the main accused and others. Tahir Hussain had filed a bail application through his lawyer.
What did the lawyer argue about bail
The lawyer of Tahir Hussain argued his client was innocent. The investigating agency was unable to present any concrete evidence against him. He has been incarcerated for 3 years and 11 months. The public prosecutor, however, objected to the bail plea and noted that the investigating agency had so far presented seven witnesses to the court. He can pressure the witnesses as soon as he is released on bail. He claimed that the accused was also involved in the murder of an IB officer named Ankit Sharma.
Court granted conditional bail
After hearing arguments from both sides, the court granted conditional bail to the accused. He was required to provide a bail bond of Rs 25,000 and a surety to the court, which instructed him not to pressure the witnesses. It is his responsibility to inform the court if his address changes.
