Chandigarh: Domino's pays Rs 2000 to a complainant

A complainant had filed a complaint against Domino’s for wrongful charging of carrying bag in Chandigarh. On Monday, Domino’s was made to pay Rs 2,000 to the complainant for failing to appear in the State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission (SCDRC) and file a reply on the said date.

The complainant, Pankaj Chandgothia who is an advocate accused Domino’s of wrongfully charging for a paper carry bag. Chandgothia had filed a complaint against Sector 8 Chandigarh branch of Domino’s, he said that he had sent his driver to bring a pizza from Domino’s, but they charged Rs 13.33 for a paper bag.

Chandgothia claimed that the price of the carry bag was not mentioned anywhere in the outlet and even otherwise, carry bag is a part of packing and a customer cannot be expected to carry hot pizza boxes in his hand. Chandgothia continued further by saying that the given carry bag carried the name of Domino’s on both sides, which amounted to making the customers pay for their advertising.

On January 14, the reply was to be filed by Domino’s but eventually, no one appeared on behalf of Domino’s which led the commission to order ex-parte proceedings against them. The commission imposed a fine of Rs 2,000 on Domino’s for their negligence even though Domino’s filed revision against the said orders.

The case which was heard on Monday will now further be adjourned to April 24, 2019. Domino’s paid the cost and filed a reply on Monday and will be waiting for the further proceedings.
