Chapter 1606 VA Benefits: Those members of the Selected Reserve, such as the Army Reserve, Navy Reserve, Air Force Reserve, Marine Corps Reserve, Coast Guard Reserve, Army National Guard, and Air National Guard, are eligible for financial assistance through the Montgomery GI Bill Selected Reserve (MGIB-SR). From October 1, 2023, to September 30, 2024, the MGIB-SR rates will be effective.
Based on the type of education or training you are pursuing, the number of courses you are taking, or your progress in apprenticeships or on-the-job training, your monthly rate is determined. Your monthly rate may be less than the full rate if you have fewer courses enrolled than full-time, fewer clock hours per week, or if you are enrolled in an apprenticeship or on-the-job training program.
You may receive more money each month if you have a kicker. We will add it to your monthly payment.”
In higher education institutions, full-time enrollment rates are as follows:
- Enrollment fee: $466.00 for full-time students
- 3/4-time enrollment: $349.00
- 1/2-time enrollment: $233.00
- Less than 1/2-time enrollment: $116.50
Your funding is affected by MGIB-SR rates
Depending on the number of days enrolled in the month, we will pay you a percentage of the full month’s rate. For example, if you start school on the 20th, you will get paid for 10 days of enrollment that month. You would pay 1/3 of the monthly rate.”
The monthly rates for non-college degree programs, such as trade and vocational schools, are different. Please note that these rates are for the period October 1, 2023, to September 30, 2024.
