Chaturmas 2025

Chaturmas 2025: In Hindu tradition Chaturmas is a special 4 months period where people stop all big and happy events like weddings or housewarming ceremonies. This time is also called Chaumasa. It comes once every year and is seen as very holy. During this phase, Lord Vishnu, one of the most important gods, is believed to go into a deep sleep called Yog Nidra. Because of this, many Hindus believe that it is not a good time to start anything new or celebrate.

Chaturmas is not just about avoiding celebrations. It’s a time where people try to become better from inside. They focus more on prayers, quiet thinking, and living a simple life. People avoid too many comforts or pleasures during these months. This period helps everyone slow down and focus on spiritual things.

The upcoming Chaturmas in 2025 will begin on 6 July, which is Devshayani Ekadashi. It will go on till 1 November 2025 and will end on Devuthani Ekadashi. On 2 November, with Tulsi Vivah, people can again begin to do happy and lucky events.

Things People Avoid During Chaturmas

  • During Chaturmas, people do not do weddings, engagements, or even small ceremonies like a child’s first haircut or house entry. All of these are paused because Lord Vishnu, who gives blessings for such happy events, is believed to be asleep.
  • People also do not start new businesses or buy big things like houses or cars. Many also believe it’s not good to buy new clothes or other big items in this time.
  • Haircuts and shaving are usually not done during these four months. People feel it is best to leave the body natural during this time and stay simple.
  • People stop eating certain kinds of food. Non-veg food like meat, eggs, or fish is not eaten. Foods like onions and garlic are also kept away, as well as some vegetables like curd, brinjal, leafy greens, and radish. These are believed to disturb the body’s peace and are avoided to help keep the mind calm.
