Chhattisgarh: Deputy Collector accused of embezzling Rs 14 lakh suspended

Jyoti Babli Bairagi, Deputy Collector of Balrampur-Ramanujganj district, has been suspended by the Commissioner of Surguja. Jyoti is accused of embezzling Rs 14 lakh. The money was to be paid after completion of construction work in the years 2014-15 and 2015-16. However, it was paid without any construction work being done in the area.

The action was taken by the Commissioner after an investigation proved that there was an embezzlement. She has been attached to the district office, Surajpur, during the suspense period.

It’s worth mentioning that Jyoti Babli Bairagi was posted as SDM of Wadrafnagar till April 22. She was shifted from the post after a dispute with an IPS and SDOP at a PWD Rest House in Wadrafnagar.

In the years 2014-15 and 2015-16, Jyoti Babli Bairagi was posted as CEO in charge of the Wadrafnagar district. During this period, some irregularities were noticed in the construction work carried out at Chapata, Tungwa, Jami and Pendari villages under MGNREGA.

An inquiry was ordered in the matter and the report was submitted on April 30. It was found the Jyoti Babli Bairagi embezzled Rs 14,06,118. She was also found guilty of negligence following which action was initiated against her.
