Chhattisgarh: Major blow to BJP, senior leader joins Congress

In a major political development on Sunday in Raipur, senior state leader Ravi Verma joined Congress ahead of state assembly elections. Verma has served as  Bhartiya Janta Party”s (BJP) Durg district Vice President and was also a crucial leader of Bhartiya Janta Yuva Morcha.

Chhattisgarh state is witnessing a triangular contest between ruling BJP, major opposition party Congress and newly former political outfit Janta Congress Chhattisgarh, where BJP is facing anti-incumbency and Congress is looking to end its exile of fifteen years. Former Chief Minister and Janta Congress Chhattisgarh chief Ajit Jogi, who parted ways with Congress in 2016 and stated that he is neither with Congress nor BJP and could play a spoilsport for both major contenders.
